Flood Of CaRe is an original initiative facilitated by current and former residents of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Midwest city hardest hit by flooding in June of 2008.
Our MISSION is to reach out world-wide to raise money from the general public, corporations and other entities, and to distribute that money to those unable financially to fully recover their homes and contents. Money will be raised through donations as well as a near-future online auction, with donated items from notable celebrities, corporations, and individuals in the Music, Film, Sports, Jewelry/Fashion, and Political arenas.
Flood Of CaRe is handled by fiscal sponsorship organization Trust For The Future, a non-profit educational foundation founded in 1985, which sponsors environmental projects and businesses. We are now working with the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation (gcrcf.org) to assist in distributing the funds raised. (The same organization that Jay Leno used to distribute his proceeds from his Las Vegas flood benefits.)
Flood Of CaRe focus is on the especially hard-hit city of Cedar Rapids. It is our hope that others will step forward to work in partnership with our committee to enlarge our circle of support for other areas that may sustain damage as well. Contributions are welcome and encouraged while our website evolves and grows. To date, we have received very large and generous donations of both auction items and large monetary contributions from notable celebrities, corporations, and individuals, including a large donation from a prestigious hospital that wishes the contribution to be an anonymous gift.
The Flood Of CaRe initiative was originally started by a handful of philanthropic-minded Cedar Rapids, Iowa Washington High School Alumni, who were planning to gather for a 20-year high school reunion. Their first event was to have been a gathering at the top of the Crowne Plaza in downtown Cedar Rapids, and then a foray into the city to visit local nightlife. While plans have changed, the scattered classmates have used their reunion forum to bring together their resources, contacts, talents, and knowledge in order to raise funds for and give back to their childhood home. They have already begun to receive donations and media coverage in their respective states, and national coverage through TV, radio, and internet outlets including National ClearChannel coverage, and MySpace. Their goal is to help revitalize the city where they grew up so that in five years, they can climb above the city and look down on a restored, more vibrant Cedar Rapids.
We encourage you to help, as devastation is immeasurable, the financial needs immense, and affected homeowners and small business owners need and appreciate your help. Donate, bid, and share this website information. And when you are done, come see why the proud people of Cedar Rapids are working so hard to help one another continue to call this place home.
